I’ve had the privilege twice now of working on exhibitions at the MIT Museum in Cambridge, and this time was no exception.  With most of the museum overhauled over the course of 3 months, I came in around the last month to installed some parts of The Enemy and Big Bang Data, both fascinating new shows involving very new technology and how we interact with it in our lives.  In addition to that full schedule, my studiomate and I were tasked with building four cabinets that were 6′ tall and 6′ wide to house all of the equipment for the virtual reality experience called The Enemy.  All of the headsets, backpacks, batteries and chargers needed to be locked away in secure cases, and we tackled the job with enthusiasm.

It’s been nice to have some bigger projects come in and out of studio, especially things that go out into the world and have a life after we’ve worked on them, and especially ones with lives that we can watch after the fact, and learn about our design ideas from their use and abuse, and just see our creations get used and perform their functions.  It was challenging to build such hefty units in our space, and we eventually had to get two out of there before we could assemble the other two, or we’d have blocked ourselves in!

Now they sit in the ground floor gallery space of the museum, storing the gear for the next visitor to enter the virtual reality experience and have a meeting with The Enemy.
